Last week my 3 year old daughter had the pleasure of trying out a fantastic new product called Eco Clay.
Eco Clay is an all natural, aromatic play dough made right here in Melbourne by a mum. After searching for a more natural play dough, she couldn’t find anything except the mass produced play dough with unknown ingredients was the only product available in stores.
I love that she sources most of her ingredients locally and uses certified organic where possible.
This product is amazing and got a 5 star rating not only from my daughter but from everyone in the family as we couldn’t resist but join in and squish away with this lovely scented dough. After our play I was entertained by the sound of my gorgeous daughter singing Happy Birthday to herself after she had made am Eco Clay cake!
Benefits of using Eco Clay play dough:
- It’s fun!
- It helps to strengthen small fingers, hands and wrists. Children gain control over their hand and arm movements which improves coordination.
- Modelling and using cutters & rollers is great for muscle development.
- It helps to build your child’s imagination.
- It helps children develop self esteem -there is no right or wrong way to use play dough.
- Play dough fosters cooperative play. Playing with dough with others helps children understand the importance of sharing.
- Play dough is a natural outlet through which children can express their emotions.
- It is a great release for tension or angry feelings – squeezing, punching or working the dough can help ease away these strong emotions.
- Discussing what has been made helps build communication skills and develops imagination.
- Dividing it up can be used to help children learn about numbers and counting.
- Play dough can be used as therapy for children with special needs.
- Play dough is a lovely open ended toy – it can be anything – food, animals, faces, shapes etc.

Lovely photos!
It looks lovely and colourful. I love play-dough and we always have some at home.
The only reason I wouldn’t buy this is that it’s so unnecessary to buy play-dough in the first place! It takes just a few minutes to have a beautiful batch of play-dough that will last for months (I use the recipe on the cream of tartar packet). I do think that with something so easy to make it is surely more sustainable (and much cheaper) to make it yourself! There is something satisfying about being able to provide such a great plaything for your kids from basic household items!
Love your stuff xx
Thanks Fiona, we have all had such a fun time playing with the new Eco Clay!
Making your own playdough is a great and fairly easy activity to do with kids so I totally understand where you are coming from but realistically not everyone does. I know because I am one of those people! I would love to say that I am more self sufficient and make our own play dough but I don’t and never have and probably never will and if I did I would never get anything as colourful and nice as this one. I bought a homemade playdough nearly 2 years ago now from our local craft market and was so relieved to find a natural alternative to the chemical based ones in toy shops. I haven’t really found anything else similar since then and my daughter has been playing with very old and dried up dough! So for me having a natural alternative where I am supporting a local mum who supports local sustainable businesses is a great option.
it does look most gorgeous and I do understand – life is too short to worry which things to make your self and which things to buy! This stuff being aromatic reminds me of my mum making playdough that was scented with Rose essential oils – next time I will add a few drops of something yummy smelling!
