Are kids kids ride on cars dangerous? This is a question that many people are wondering about, but with the advent of technology there has been a rise in young children riding in the back seats of cars. I had this happen to me and I did some research and found that there was no data to support or negate this claim. So here is what I found out about kids riding on cars.

Kids riding on cars can be dangerous for both drivers and the kids themselves. In order to make it safer, proper car seat safety guidelines must be followed, especially when children are one year old or younger. The most dangerous days are when children are one and two years old, they have the highest chance of being injured in a car accident. It just so happened to me along with my friend when I was around his daughter.

I was riding a bicycle and on my way home; I saw a young girl from her balcony on the third floor of her apartment building, in San Jose California. I was walking on the sidewalk and she was waving at me. The bicycle path went right past her house as I got nearer I noticed that she had some toys and she seemed to be in a good mood. After a few minutes of talking with her father and me he told me that she was suppose to be napping, but instead she decided to get out of her crib and come down stairs.

I just about got off the bike and started to walk away, when I looked behind me, I saw her coming right at me and jumped off the bike. I hear this loud screeching sound as she brushed passed me on the sidewalk and fell into a small ditch that was on her left side. She had a few scratches on her face and was still smiling. She must have been in shock because she didn’t no what happened to her.

Why is it dangerous for Kids Riding on Cars

There are some statistics that have been released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, they are as follows.

There are 3200 children under the age of five killed in a car accident every year. Babies and toddlers make up 80% of these deaths. This makes no sense to me because toddlers are supposed to be strapped in their car seats.

There are a total of 3.5 million children 0-5 years old riding in cars. Many states have not complied with the safety requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and therefore, no regulations exist for the protection of these children in cars.

It is believed that over 1 million infants, toddlers and preschoolers are injured or killed each year when they ride on cars; of the 1 million this includes adults traveling with them as well.

According to a study of the National Safety Council, 31 percent of parents have placed their child in danger when they are riding on a car seat that is not properly installed.
